Friends, foes, fiends, you know I do not say this lightly. But this could be the best thing that’s happened in all of 2025 so far. That’s right, we’ve finally got a trailer for the sixth instalment of the Final Destination franchise, Final Destination: Bloodlines!
Final Destination holds a giant place in my horror-loving heart, and always will. Final Destination 5 was the first real horror movie I snuck into the cinema to see, and after that, I spent evenings I should have been spending wholesomely getting drunk in a field with half of my graduating high school class obsessively watching the making-of extras on the DVD copies of the Final Destination series I had swiped from a friend. I love this series – the silliness, the sense of fun, the gore, all of it. While you were developing a personality, I was watching someone having an exceptionally bad time at a gymnastics tournament, and frankly, I’d have it no other way.
Which brings me to this trailer. The movie, due for release in May this year, is directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, and features the late, great Tony Todd’s final performance as part of the franchise. Nearly fifteen years after Final Destination 5 hit cinemas (hit being the operative part of that sentence), we’re finally getting another entry into one of the 2000s most iconic horror franchises. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Much like the iconic TV spot for Final Destination II, Bloodlines uses a single kill scene as their first teaser trailer – and that’s a really good sign. Because, fundamentally, we’re not coming to this franchise for the plot or the characters, we’re coming to it for the kills, and the trailer needs to convince us not that this story is worth watching, but that their gleefully creative deaths are a worthy addition to the franchise.
And if this is anything to go by? Then yeah, they very much are. Richard Harmon is our hapless victim this time around, a tattoo artist mourning the death of his father – but, hey, turns out it’s not going to be long till he meets him. I love the way this sequence is put together, that brilliant comedy-of-horrors vibe that the franchise has revelled in as its grown past its original intention – it’s borderline slapstick, but instead of comedy, it just so happens to be the most Rube-Goldberg death you’ve seen in your life. From the fake-out shot of the tongue piercing to the sad-face grief playlist to the gruesome nose ring in the ceiling fan, it’s got that gleefully nasty feel to it that’s become the franchise’s calling card, and I can’t wait to see what else this sixth instalment has in store.
I loved this little teaser trailer and I can’t wait for the next movie’s release later this year, but I would love to know what you make of it, too. Are you a new Final Destination fan or an old stalwart? Do you think Lipovsky and Stein have what it takes to make another entry into the series? How does this trailer’s kill stack up for you amongst the rest of the franchise’s? Let me know in the comments below!
